Case Story:
Arshian Alam, a 13-year-old boy, met with a serious road traffic accident on 27 August 2026 while learning to ride a two-wheeler near a school in Jharkhand. He suffered multiple injuries, including a severe open crush injury to his left forearm with fractures of both forearm bones and significant soft-tissue damage, along with injuries to his right shoulder, wrist, face and ear.
He was initially taken to a hospital in Dhanbad and later shifted to Manipal Hospital, Kolkata, where he underwent urgent wound debridement and ORIF (surgical fixation with plates and screws) of the forearm fractures. The injury is classified as a severe open fracture requiring prolonged treatment and close monitoring.
As the wound involves substantial tissue damage, further procedures, wound care and plastic-surgery/flap coverage may be required as part of his recovery.
The family is facing a significant financial burden due to the prolonged treatment, surgeries, hospitalisation and ongoing medical care.
